Project managers working on customer side in projects under contract need competent education in Project Business Management, in addition to classical internal project management topics. They also need support in form of consulting and coaching, particularly when complications emerge.

Knowledge and skills in project management remain relevant, but are no more sufficient for the management of the increasingly complex project supply networks (PSNs). In addition, project managers need to be educated in the business aspects of projects under contract and in the development of a "Mission Success First" culture across the entire project.

External procurement of project work enables organizations to tap the assets of other organizations – sellers – for own project purposes. This brings new challenges, which increase with growing size, complexity and opacity of the project supply networks, PSNs.

Project managers must respond to these challenges with project-related business competencies; they must learn project business management. However, there is so far no sufficient education offered ]for the effective management of opportunities and risks that emerge with procurement of project work to PSNs. Business Training for Project managers (Customer-side)

A professional Project Business Manager on customer side has the the skills to induce changes in a troubled project, that effectively prioritize project success and ensure the support from the project supply network (PSN).

This program helps project managers manage complex PSNs.

Procuring project work from outside the organization gives access to assets and resources of other firms, but brings about neue risks. Different business interests, corporate cultures and legal systems (for international contractual procurement) can become critical challenges, and the effectiveness of the response to them can make the difference between success and failure.

Observations in practice show that project managers are mostly successful in these situations, when they establish a "Mission Success First" culture together with management, employees and contractors to ensure "Completing before Competing" and attain project goals in a joint effort.
