The CAPM Certification

The CAPM Certification

The CAPM certification is a great starting point for beginning an international career as a project manager.

There are three options for exam preparation, depending on experience and further career path planning.

The credential as a Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM®) is issued by the Project Management Institute (PMI®). It is aimed at project management beginners and other individuals who do not fulfill the requirements for the Project Management Professional (PMP) credential yet but who still want to signal their decision for a project management career to employers and customers.

The CAPM certification is recognized worldwide. It supports this signal visibly.

The PMP certification is difficult to optain, unless the candidate gets the right support. Our Service Proposition

We actively attend students beyond the professional training during exam application and preparation. We answer questions and help resolving problems that may turn up, using our experience in CAPM preparation (since 2005) and our up-to-date knowledge as PMI insiders. We finally lead candidates to exam success.

Note: Starting from August 22, 2017 PMI introduces a new form of the exam as "Proctored Online Examination". With it, the exam procedure from a home or work place computer will be made possible. We are available to give more details upon request.

The Value of the CAPM Certification for Project Business Management

A core asset for...

Customer organizations:
The CAPM certification improves the position of a person who has the technical authority for managing contractors, but no substantial experience (minumum 3 years) yet.
Organizations offering project services:
The CAPM certification signals methodological knowledge without promising experience that still needs to be gained by young professionals.

    Option 2: Associate Degree
(~Abitur)
--- 23h

Eligibility

A prerequesite for exam eligibility is either 1,500h of experience in a project management team, or alternatively, 23h of training.

The minimum required degree is the Associate Degree, roughly comparable to a high school degree in many European countries. If there are insecurities about the required degree, contact us for help.

Validity

In order to maintain the certification, the exam has to be repeated every five years. Most credential holders by then will however have collected enough experience to "upgrade" it to a PMP certification instead.

Exam Procedure

The exam consists of 150 multiple choice questions that have to be answered within three hours. Further details about the CAPM certification are described in the CAPM Handbook issued by PMI.

We support organizations to qualify their employees for the CAPM certification exam upon request. We also carry out CAPM preparation seminars for the academic sector.

Language Options

For German-speaking candidates, missing English skills are no obstacle. While the exam is done in English, a German language aid is offered to candidates whose English language skills are not sufficient. The exam can be mastered well using this language aid.

The printed seminar handout is in English. A German translation is available as a pdf, which is especially helpful for working through sample questions that are similar to the real exam, and for the self-guided study process between the seminar and the exam.

Seminar participants also use the Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide), which is also available in German and in English.

Option 1 to Master the CAPM Certification: Self Study

The CAPM certification is not easy to master. If someone has enough professional experience and feels ready to take it on, they can attempt to prepare for it relying on self-directed studying only.

Requirement:

  • 1,500 hours of working as a member of a project management team

Study materials:

  • A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide)

  • Free sample questions (see here)

  • CAPM exam preparation literature
Option 2: Participating in a PMP Preparation Seminar

Candidates for the CAPM certification often like to attend a PMP seminar.

For the time being, this might be a training that exceeds the requirements of the exam. When "upgrading" to a PMP certification later, 35 contact hours of training will be already fulfilled, however, and attendance of another training can be avoided.
