Exam Language

Exam Language Options

The PMP certification exam is given in English by default.

However, there are a number of language options that can be ordered when booking your exam seat.

Helpful: If you order one of these language versions, you can access the original English version of the exam question at any time during the exam.

  • Arabic
  • Bahasa (Indonesian)
  • Chinese (traditional, simplified)
  • German
  • French
  • Hebrew
  • Italian
  • Japanese
  • Korean
  • Polish
  • Portugese (Brazilian)
  • Russian
  • Spanish
  • Turkish

Exam in English or Your Native Language? Here Is My Recommendation:

Oliver F. Lehmann

I conduct PMP seminars in German and English. For both variants, I use English courseware. More about the use of English training materials for German language classes is below.

The question often arises whether to conduct the exam in the original language or with a translation. Here is our recommendation:

  • If you speak English well enough:
I recommend taking the exam in English. Doing the exam bilingually – your native language with checking the original English version for unclear words and expressions – can slow you down. Getting tested in only one language saves time, and time matters during the exam.
  • If your command of the English language is not sufficient: Then, you should, of course, use the translation in your native language provided by PMI. Many candidates have used it and successfully passed the exam with it.

The translated exam allows you to open the original English version of a question in a separate window if you have difficulties understanding the German translation of a word or an expression. Then, as you are preparing for the English exam, you can find the original wording of the text and go back to the translated text with a better understanding and answer the question.

When do you know whether your English skills are sufficient? At the latest, at the end of the preparatory seminar with many practice questions, you can assess this very well.

Conversational Language during the Seminar

NATIVE LANGUAGE SEMINAR

=> Public seminar dates conducted in your native language – Advantages:

  • For a native speaker, it is much less strenuous to follow the very demanding 35-h seminar in the native language.
  • Ongoing references to English terms and their translations during the seminar facilitate bilingual preparation.
ENGLISH SEMINAR

=>  Public seminar dates in conducted in English -Advantages:

  • Students come into contact with international participants.
  • Uniform language for seminar, seminar material, and exam, if one wants to take the exam in English.

English Language Courseware in a Seminar with Native Language Conversation?

Experience shows that even for participants who want to take the exam in their native language, it makes sense to prepare with English-language materials:

  • During a test session using a translated, non-English exam, a question may be incomprehensible, e.g. because a technical term has been translated inaccurately from the original English test.
Then, the student can call up the original English version and check. In such a case, it is advantageous if the person has learned the English term during the seminar.
  • When a student does not understand a certain English term in the seminar, the person can immediately ask the trainer.
  • Participants know by the end of the seminar at the latest whether it is better to take the exam in English or in their own language.
  • Those who take the exam in English will be better prepared with English materials.

How I do it in my German classes:

  • During the seminar, we do practice sessions with mock test questions. Here, students can use Deepl or Google Translate to easily translate questions into their native German (or any other) language.
